Find the right plants, faster! With more filters than any other plant database, you can quickly cross-reference and find the best plants for every project.

The plant search includes 500+ filters – more than any other online plant database.
The power of the plant search isn’t just the number of filters – it’s how they work together.
You can combine filters together, so your results get more specific with every step.
Need a perennial that grows no more than 3 feet tall, is native to the Pacific Northwest, fits a Japanese garden style, AND has yellow flowers that bloom in May, June, July?
Start by filtering for all Pacific Northwest Natives in the database.
Narrow to perennials that grow 1-3 feet tall.
Filter for yellow blooms in May, June, July.
Add sun and water requirements.
Now you’re looking at a short list of plants that already fit – so choosing the right one is easy!
The plant search includes so many plant characteristics, it’s broken down into several sections:
Zone:
Look for plants based on their USDA Zones, Sunset Zones or Regional Natives.
Anatomy:
Sort through plants based on Plant Type, Height and Width, Flower Color and Season, Leaf Color and Characteristics, Habit, Fruit Season and Color, and more…
Culture:
Cover the basics with Sun, Water, Soil Requirements. Go beyond with filters for Growth Rate and Tolerances.
Design:
Search for plants based on their style – Mediterranean, Japanese, Cottage, and more. Or search for plants based on Season or Month of Interest, a plant’s Texture, or what wildlife the plant Attracts.
→ View all searchable plant characteristics

Seeing the plant clearly helps you make decisions faster.
A picture is worth a thousand words – and each plant includes multiple high-quality images so you get a real sense of its beauty, form, and texture before making any decisions.
The more you can see, the easier it is to choose.
You can edit any plant record – so your searches reflect your specific region, not just generic data.
Every plant record in PlantMaster can be edited.
Change the month of bloom.
Adjust the plant type.
Update the sun and water requirements.
Whenever you make those changes, your filters use your version of the plant.
So when you search for plants that bloom in June, you’ll see plants that will actually bloom in June.
The more you refine your plant records, the more useful your searches become!

“Just a quick note to tell you that I continue to be amazed by PlantMaster. I’m usually in a hurry when I use it, wrapping up the files to pass along to a client, so I knew there were lots of features I wasn’t using, but today, stumped on some fresh ideas for plants that bloom orange, I logged in to the plant search and OH. MY. GOSH!!!
There they all are, by zone, size, bloom color, etc… How did I not use this before now–silly me. Wow, just wow! This is exactly what I need. The program is fabulous!

The filters are a series of accordions. There are so many options, they didn’t fit on the page unless we combined them into categories. To use the filters, click on the major sections (Palettes, Zones, Anatomy, Culture, Design) to see all the options within. Then click on any of the plant characteristics to make your selections. Please note that each section will close when you open another section (again to make sure there is enough space :))
If you are having any trouble getting the hang of it – please give us a call or send us an email. We can walk you through it!
YES! You can filter by Zone. We include USDA and Sunset Zones, plus we have a whole library of natives for every Region.
We’ve worked really hard to include the RIGHT plants. We don’t claim to have every plant, but chances are we have most of the plants you use in your projects. Please take a look at the plant search to see for yourself. (But note that you won’t have access to all the filters and tools until you login to an account. Try typing in the first 3-5 letters of the plant name instead of the full name.)
If you really can’t find your plants, don’t give up on us yet! Send us your plant list! (Seriously, send us a sample plant list) We’ll take a look and work out a plan to add the plants you need.
Great question! Yes, you can customize your searches in a variety of ways. You can use the name search and filters together. For example, if you want to find an Echinacea with yellow flowers, you can type “Echinacea” to pull up all Echinacea in the database, then use the filters and select “Yellow Flowers” to pull up just the yellow flowering Echinacea.
And not to overly complicate, but you can even group plants together in quick lists (we call them Palettes) so your searches go even quicker!
Yes. When you type a plant name, the database will search both Botanical and Common Names. So you can type any part of the Botanical Name or any part of the Common Name and you’ll be able to see ALL results that include those letters. We even include synonymous names or older names to make sure you can always find your plants!
Think of palettes as quick lists. You can save plants that you love or plants that solve specific problems (Ex: Grasses for erosion control) into groups. These groups become filters you can use to make searches even faster! So the next time you’re working on a hillside project, click on the Palettes filter for Erosion Control Grasses and view the grasses you’ve previously selected.
There is a lot to learn about palettes, so if you’re confused, don’t worry – we have a whole page dedicated to Palettes where you can learn how they work and how to use them! Learn more about Palettes.
