PLANTING DESIGN

Organize your plants as you design your spaces.

Learn why the planting design tools are the perfect tools to use while you draft!

What are the Planting Design tools?

Landscape professionals have the challenge of balancing design WITH environmental concerns. A specific plant might have the perfect flower or leaf color, but it may not work because it requires too much water or needs more shade.

Our planting design tools make it easy to find the right plant for every area of your design. Check out these fantastic tools!

Here’s how to use it!

You have a ton of options for each project. And viewing all the plants at once doesn’t really help you design the space. Use the planting design tools to make it easy to group plants. Then you are only reviewing a few plants and can pick the best one for each space.

For example, use the height and width tools to help you quickly place larger plants in the back and smaller plants in the front. Or quickly review the best plants for a shady spot in the design.

The planting design spreadsheet displays key information like: plant type, height, width, sun, season, leaf color, flower season, flower color, accenting features and growth habit. And you can use all the filters and sorting tools as you design.

Whether you draft or draw, keep this tool open as you create your final planting plan – we promise it will make it so much easier!

Work Area by Area.

Make your job even easier and work Area by Area. When you are ready to work on your planting plan, click on one of the Areas filters. That way you’ll only see the plants for that space instead of everything. Not as overwhelming.

In our example image (to the right)– instead of looking through all 39 plants, you’ll just review the 15 plants for the back fence. (And you can always add or remove plants from Areas in this workspace)

Then you can use the filters and information about the plants to assist as you make your design. It’s easy to see which plants are the tallest. Or, use the filters to find the shrubs that will handle lots of water for a shady spot.

The point is, you can compare and contrast plants in smaller groupings to make it so much easier to complete your final design!

With its plant-search, organizational, report-generating capabilities, and many other productivity tools, PlantMaster is the fastest, most efficient way I have found to build and curate impressive plant presentations. Clients, given a link to their online plant palettes, can not only view several of each plant’s photos, but also interactively learn about its characteristics, habit, and culture–a much-loved feature for my clients.

PlantMaster has appreciably improved my overall design process, from the first inklings of the design itself on to the final-plan presentation to the client.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this with my drafting program?

Yes! You should! If you have a large enough screen, we recommend that you have PlantMaster open alongside your drafting program so you can review and search for plants, then drop them into your design!

I want to view plants from the tallest to the shortest, can I do that?

At the moment, no. 🙁 But we are working on it! We’re currently building sorting tools so you can organize plants from tallest to shortest and vice versa – but we’re not quite done yet. When we’re done, you’ll be able to sort by height, width, and even water requirements. That way you can compare plants on a scale from most water usage to least. Stay tuned!
